From Concept To Completion

History - Practise

LJM Drafting was founded in 2005 by Leonard Montgomerie, now Owner and Director of the company. The idea came into being just after Leonard had completed his BA (hon) Architecture degree, and initailly was just a way of obtaining much needed funds to continue and complete his studies. Interest grew and word spread locally, within two or so years a number of projects had been undertaken and completed: "From the very start the idea was to provide modern design at an affordable price, an architectural service everyone can use". By 2008 more time was being spent working on client based projects by Leonard than his University portfolio studies, a company was born.

Our philosophy is centered on the idea that good design and architecture can improve people’s quality of life, not only for those who live and work in our built designs but also for those that live nearby or merely visit, intergration not isolation is key to a cityscape prospering.

We start our architectural design projects with a rigorous analysis of the site, its surrounding context and the client’s requirements, so that our response to the brief and the site is one that always meets and often exceeds expectations in terms of function, beauty and the environment created. Adding value through modern one-off design solutions is key to LJM Drafting's continued success.

History - Personnel

Leonard Montgomerie began his architectural career path at the age of sixteen, opting to study a Diploma in Construction at 'South Kent College' in Folkestone. After gaining an overall merit for his college work, he went on to study BA(hon) Architecture degree at 'The University of Greenwich,' London, graduating in 2005 and founding LJM Drafting in the same year. Gap year studies at two different practises only reinforced the fact that to be creative he simply had to work for himself. He completed his qualifications in 2009, passing his MA in Architecture at 'The University of Kent' in Canterbury.

"I believe that simple changes can make a real difference, in life as well as architecture, the detail is where the beauty lies. The built environment should be a much considered element of our everyday lives, not squandered needlessly for monetary gains; good design creates its own value, one of place, originality, function and ease of use. My philosophy is one of rational expression, one-off creative design that accurately meets the brief."
